Katie tells Mimi good-bye!

Today Katie and I went to tell MIMI good-bye! Sadly, she won't be coming to the wedding b/c it is just far for her to travel that far. We had a great visit and then did some more running around. We ended up meeting with Jack for a last minute chat about the wedding ceremony! We ended the day by taking Katie to J. Alexander's for dinner. Just her daddy and me! It was a sweet dinner but strange, too. It seems so odd that she will be married and living in Auburn!! I'm so happy but at the same time, so sad too! I will miss my baby girl.....

This will be my last entry until we get back from the wedding! So STAY TUNED for lots of great pix!

OH! And P.S. I got an e-mail from AOL saying that they would be ending their AOL JOURNALS on Oct. 31! OH NO!  (I will find another blogger, tho, don't worry! HAHA)!

We're headin' to the weddin'!!!!

Hello  family and friends! Just a note to say good-bye as we are heading to Destin early Wednesday morning! Our baby girl is getting married this Saturday, Oct.4th at Sunset at Watercolor Inn. I can't believe the day has finally arrived! We are so thrilled and love Jon so much and, since they have known each other for 5 years, we already feel he is a part of the family!!!  We are so excited that the Fry family is continuing to grow by adding sweet Jon to our family tree!!!

Please pray for our families as we travel to Destin ! We (all 15 of us, including LAURA, of course!) are staying in a big house together! Laura, for those of you who don't know her, has been our house-keeper/babysitter since Patrick was 6 months old. She has literally seen Katie   (and ALL the kids, but especially Patrick and Katie) more times than anyone  else ,except us!
She has diapered her/fed her/gone to school functions with her/ held her when she was sick/been to all her birthday parties/ seen her for 23 Christmases/ and most of all has loved her with all her heart and soul(and vice versa!). It is very fitting that Laura will be sitting beside me as Katie's daddy walks her down the aisle!

Please pray that the beautiful weather continues (it's supposed to be simply gorgeous weather all week in Destin!). I am so excited to have all my 5 chicks and their spouses and grand babies together in one place! YES! Patrick will be coming! Katie hasn't seen Patrick since April 6th when he left for boot camp! They have really missed each other so much!

Please pray God will continue to bless our beautiful daughter and future son-in-law as they continue on their new journey as husband and wife in Auburn, Ala. (AFTER their honeymoon to Walt Disney World! HAHA) and also for the wedding week-end  in general! We cherish your love and prayers for our sweet little bride and groom!

To Charles: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I love this picture because Powell looks like Charles did at the same age and it brings back so many memories this day!!!! THIRTY SIX years ago, a scared young girl checked into the hospital in labor 3 weeks early. NOBODY believed me, that I was in labor. Not Terry, not my mom , not the nurses. Until I got there and sure enough, little Charles decided to come early into this world! Nothing ever prepares a first time mother for the overwhelming love you have for that little lump of humanity that is placed into their arms. The first time I held him I burst into tears!  For the first time in my life I felt I had truly ACCOMPLISHED something! Something WONDERFUL. I also felt the overwhelming love from getting such a gift from God!  (that "Previenient Grace" that we Methodists are taught--that love from God when we didn't even understand it yet!)It was feelings I would have 4 more times in my life, but the FIRST time I felt that way was something I will never forget! I also remember when we took him to my mom and dad's to stay for a few days right after I came home from the hospital.  I remember looking at him in my old bedroom in the little port-a-crib Mimi had for all the grandkids. I was just staring at him, laying there, and Daddy came up behind me and put his arms around me and we just stared at him together for a long time.Suddenly I burst into tears and Daddy said, "What's wrong sweetheart?" I said, "I just don't know if I can do this!" I was just so overwhelmed with that joy but also with that new BURDEN OF LOVE upon my young shoulders! Daddy, sweet sweet Daddy, who always knew JUST WHAT TO SAY, hugged me and said, "You're going to do JUST FINE. Because I'm going to be right here with you!"Maybe that's why Charles always loved his grand-daddy so much!!! He was always there and Charles always adored him and they had such a great relationship! Terry and I were such young parents but I think we did pretty good with that sweet curly haired boy, thanks to those loving grand parents who helped us through the freaky "new parents days"! I know most girls wait longer today to have their babies than I did back in the day.  I can see both sides of that argument because I have BEEN on both sides! HAHA! I was barely 21 when Charles came (and barely 22 when Michael arrived and just turned 24 and had THREE KIDS!). Then, I was 34 when I had Katie. I thought I was OLD at 34! Imagine!!!! But, there are good things to be said for being a young mom!  Good in the fact that we "grew up together!" HAHA! Bad in the fact that I really didn't know what I was doing many times!  THANKFULLY, Charles was the ideal baby, he did just what Dr. Spock said! HAHA! He sat up at 6 months and walked ON HIS FIRST BIRTHDAY (exactly by the "rule book"!). *By the way, don't ask me when the next 4 kids walked or sat up! I've forgotten! HAHAHAHA! *

What is it about child number one???? Poor things! The younger kids think the first kids "have it made"! NOT SO! They are the "experiment"! The one who does EVERYTHING, FIRST!!! The hardest to let 1. start kindergarten   2. go alone to b'day party  3. expect the best grades from  4. cry the hardest the day they leave for college!!!

Yes, I experienced all those things. You wouldn't know it by the time baby number FIVE arrived! But, yes, I felt all those things. Sometimes I still do with him! When he called to tell me that he and Rachel were expecting a BOY, I burst, once again, into tears!! Because I knew that HE would soon be feeling all those things I felt the day I heard I was having MY first son. All those wonderful things you can't explain to your child, they have to experience it for themselves. How can you even TRY to explain the love you have for your first born child?(and next borns, but TODAY I'm talking about the FIRST TIME feelings of motherhood!). I can't help but shed a few tears this morning as I look over the lake at this GORGEOUS sunset and think about my OLDEST son turning 36 years old today and my youngest daughter getting married this coming Saturday. The circle of life. So wonderful. So incredible. So moving. So sad. So beautiful.  So exciting. So happy. So emotional. Some days it's just hard being a mama, whether you are a mom at 20 (like I was then) or a mom at 57 (like I am now). WHy? Because there are moments I just wish I could turn back the hands of time! To see Charles for the first time again. To watch him walk on his first birtday again. To see him get off the school bus. To stand outside his bedroom door an hear he and Michael whispering secrets when they were going to bed. To see him graduate again, from B'ham Souther and watching DADDY'S FACE. To see him get married. To see him watching Powell in the hospital.Just remembering and wanting to go back in time. For just that one moment in time. Oh the memories I have today. Just like last week, thinking about MICHAEL, this week is CHARLES' week. Next week-end I'll be feeling similar memories about Katie. And so on. And such is the stuff of life. Today, for now, I honor and cherish moments of Charles. To him I say, "thanks. Thanks for making me the happiest I had ever been 36 years ago. For YOU, sweet curly haired son, made ME a mom"! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I LOVE YOU!

(Katie is in Auburn/Pat in Pensacola/Charles in Boston! So, it was a quieter birthday but still fun!!! Actually, it wasn't quiet at all ! Fairy Princess Daisy spends the day!

Princess D hasn't been  her usual happy self today. She has a wicked cold and just doesn't feel good! Bless her heart! But, GranJan prevails! I gave her something kind of new to see if she liked it and it was boiled egg! She loved it!!!! But, that didn't last too long  b/c  her nose is running and she is just generally miserable having a bad cold and I have had a time trying to find something to keep her happy (EXCEPT when she's eating in the high chair of course! HAHA)!.....EVEN DRESSING HER UP IN HER PRINCESS HAT AND WINGS  DIDN"T MAKE HER HAPPY (it used to work on her mommy! Still does!! LOL)! OOPS! Got to go, PRINCESS DAISY IS WANTING OUT OF HER ROYAL HIGH CHAIR!!!

Patrick calls at the Party

Katie is holding out her arm hugging where Patrick would be standing!!! PATRICK: WE MISS YOU, SWEETIE! Can't WAIT To see you!

Katie and Jon's great party!

Katie and Jon had the best party last night! It was given by Charles and Rachel in their new house. It was an "AROUND THE HOUSE" party so they got lots of "around the house" type gifts!!! One of KATIE'S favorite gifts was from Meghan--an ALABAMA tray! She loves it! Jon, well, Jon loves the Auburn throw his step sis gave him!!!! ....The party was so much fun! It was also an ALABAMA/AUBURN Football party , in sorts, for the guys too! Charles had both games going so you could watch whatever team you liked to watch!! OR, you could hang with the gals and chat! HAHA!....Little Powell was adorable last night, too! He grins all the time and was just so sweet! We all had fun holding him and kissing him!.....Check out the pix from last night! There was only ONE thing, or should I say, ONE PERSON missing! You guessed it! PATRICK! But, he called and we all got to tell him hello!!!

It's CLEAN!

Well, after a BUSY day yesterday, we woke up to a fresh and clean HOUSE!! The air smells like a combination of MURPHY'S SOAP and COMET and FEBREEZE! HAHA! Katie worked on the bathroom floor half the night and I cannot believe it is the same tile floor! We both got on our hands and knees and cleaned each inch of these wood floors by mopping and then applying Murphy's Oil soap! Also, the same for the wood cabinets! Believe it or not, I got the nasty commode off, after about an hour of trying, and Katie and I both gagged as it came off!!!!! GROSS! After we scrubbed for the umpteenth time in there, Kemp  went to the bathroom and said, "It smells GOOD in here!" HURRAH! Kemp/Cutie are still asleep and I am rewarding myself with a cup of coffee (one of Katie's wedding gifts!). Jon is going to be so excited to see his NEW house! We'll be heading back to the 'Ham later on , probably late morning or so.....BUSY week-end. Kemp was an angel despite the fact that we drug him TWICE to Home Depot/Ross/WalMart! But, it's worth it all!

We drug poor little Kemp around with us, he fell sound asleep on the last run!!! Last night I almost laughed out loud when I saw him with a broom and a dust pan! He's just like his mama, loves a clean house! AND, like Aunt Cutie, too! Right this minute she's mopping the kitchen----AGAIN! We have been cleaning for 2 solid days!  Tomorrow we're heading back with post notes left for Jon: KEEP CLEAN! HAHAHAHA!

River Rats

Terry and I were invited to the Clelland's River house for Labor Day. We had such a great time! We ate lots of "Q" (thanks to Bobby's delicious ribs and chicken and Dianne's home made sauce!)and slaw and beans and tater salad! I brought the slaw (I have a great recipe for it!) and pound cake and Terry made some Jerk Chicken and brought the MOST DELICIOUS Maragrita mix from La Concina and we made them there! YUMMMMMM! And I even was NICE enough to watch the Auburn game! HAHA! Bobby wore his lucky AUBURN house slippers and I wore my WINNING Alabama house slippers! Guess both of those "lucky charms" worked b/c BOTH our teams WON!....We enjoyed having, not one, but 2 special little dogs on this trip! SKIP, of COURSE, and also Scarlett, the precious Scotty that belongs to Katie/Win....We had to cut our trip a little short as I wanted to get back in case the weather got yukky and to talk to Patrick and see if he was going to be evacuated from Pensacola. Luckily for the Alabama Gulf Coast, NO problems. And, Patrick didn't get evacuated either. He's safe and sound in Pensacola.....Anyway, we had a great time as always and I'm already wanting to return!
