My mother, MIMI (as everyone from her kids to grands to great grandkids to the preacher , call her!), is 92 years young today!!!! She was born August 14, 1914--Frances Louise DeArman, called "LOUISE". She is doing great and lives at HearthStone Assisted Living facility. For her birthday (besides the usual gifts of a new shirt, etc), I made her a little scrapbook taking old pictures--and turning them into copies! Yes, old pictures turned into NEW pictures from some new techniques called "Photo transferring" and then transferred the "new" photo to mica! Yes, mica! Mica is, of course, a mineral but it is great for scrapbooking! It is flexible/able to cut it easily and can stamp on it/write on it and it's transparent (depending on the thickness you use)! I had been reading about it in scrapbook magazines and have been wanting to try my hand at it. I also tried some different techniques highlighting the person I wanted in a picture and tried that on Mimi's as well. I had a hard time finding the mica, tho, and I finallyfound/ ordered it online. I went EVERYWHERE in town , searching for it and sometimes people would look at me like I was crazy when I asked for MICA! HAHA! I was so excited when that package came and I opened up that big slab of mica! Terry was, like, "WHAT IS THAT?!" HA! So, for the past month I have taken old pictures and transferred them to the mica and having a ball doing it! (no telling how I do it! It's a secret process! HAHAHAHAHA). Anyway, notice the MICA pix on the pages!!!!!! I have also made myself and Charles ( a book for his b'day) a scrapbook about Daddy using the same techniques. I just love using MICA and look forward to making more scrapbooks using it in the future! I hope Mimi enjoys her little BIRTHDAY scrapbook as much as I enjoyed making it! (She will go nuts trying to figure out how I put her picture on that mica! ha!). Of COURSE, I put my OWN pictures in the little book , too---after all, I AM her baby!
OH, and for those who want to see her now, I put a couple of RECENT Pix on here , too (not in the album, tho!)
* FYI: I put the picture pages first and then close up shots of the individual mica techniques, too!*
Happy Birthday to my precious MOTHER!!!!!!!!! (I love you, MIMI! From your baby girl!) xxoo
